Jackie to the rescue!!! Again!
Thursday, October 6th, 2011I was told it was a snapping turtle…
Thankfully, it wasn’t!! Perhaps a River Cooter?? I’ve just done some searches, NO IDEA there were so many different kinds of freshwater turtles!
After my doctor’s appointment today, as I was leaving the office, I heard people talking about a turtle just outside the door. Apparently the turtle had been outside the door since the employees opened the office. I offered to take the turtle out by a grassy area near a local golf cart path. My offer was graciously accepted!!
I picked the “little” guy up from the sides and noticed what looked like seaweed on the top shell…knowing it wasn’t seaweed, but recognizing that the water is where we needed to go, I put him/her in the floorboard of the passenger side of my car and off we went.
That turtle LOOKED right at me as I told him/her that we were going to the Hacienda “lake”…I actually assured him/her as I drove…I’m not kidding, it was as if he/she could understand me.
At one point, the turtle climbed up between the car seat and the shifter and nearly into my lap!! While I was driving!! I pulled over to put the turtle back into the floor board…and then used a piece of paper to “block” the path back to my lap.
When I reached the lake, I reached down to retrieve the turtle…and we started towards the water. The little guy/gal was very willing to assist in the approach of the water…both “arms” and “legs” were flailing away. When I put the turtle down, he/she sprinted to the water and dove in!
I called the doctor’s office to let them know he/she was happily back in his/her element!!
I love my life!
