Last day as a Villager…

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Just finished last load to the storage unit…and now preparing to load the Jeep with my personal stuff that I’ll keep with me…and then, off to the east to take the Jeep back to the mechanic who did the transmission work. I’ve added 2 quarts of transmission fluid in the past 4 days and I have 5 more quarts behind the seat for the trip.

Tonight is Octoberfest at The Villages. I won’t be able to attend, but you can be sure that I’ll drive through one of the squares on my way out of town…I have a couple of stops to make and might be able to drive past BOTH squares!!

Got to finish this job…and move forward.

It’s been a blast.

Last night as a Villager…

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

It’s a night not unlike any other…except that I’ve been packing and moving for a week. Because the garage has been my storage unit, over the months I brought my belongings into the home and made it my own. And now, the story ends. When I told the landlord that I would be moving out at the end of October, I had 3 potential places in mind to move to, all of them in The Villages. He was able to rent the home nearly immediately, but my dream of moving into another Villages property has nearly died.

I say nearly because there is a chance that a hot thermal fog, carpet cleaning and new A/C filters will clean up the environment of the home I had hoped to move into…While I knew that there was smoking allowed in the garage, I didn’t know the extent of the residue in the main part of the home. Over the years I’ve become increasingly sensitive to smoke, and now, it takes less than 5 minutes for the headache to begin.

As for my current dream…the Sandhill Cranes are still a daily visitor, the Moorhen family is down to just 4 and they are also daily vistors…yesterday I saw 5 of the gators, it was the first time in weeks that I had seen more than 1…with the overgrowth, they have been difficult to find. And there hasn’t been any heavy rains, which is how I usually could find all of them…the water would fill so high that it hid the grass and the gators could easily be seen swimming around. Haven’t seen the big gator in months…

Same with the owl…haven’t seen it, haven’t heard the baby either. There was a hawk flying in the area the last two days…haven’t seen the black snake since the gators killed that snake months ago…guess it was the same snake after all.

Haven’t seen the long Sandhill Crane either…hopeful that the other one was just out of my vision…and that there are still 2 pairs of the birds.

I am ready to go, I’ve been preparing myself since July 14 when, as I’ve mentioned before, life as I have known it to be, ceased to be. I’ve rarely made it to the square to dance, I never participated in any Villages activity requiring my Villages ID, except for a couple of visits to the movies, and three visits to Katie Belle’s. I doubt I’ll even get to ride in the golf cart one last time, there is still a lot of my stuff to get into storage before I have to drive the Jeep back to the mechanic who fixed the transmission. It’s leaking. A lot. Just means leaving a day earlier than expected.

I don’t know where I’ll be living, but I have just over a week to find something here in The Villages…otherwise…

Don’t want to think about it right now. Tired from moving all day…and have a lot to get done tomorrow.

I’ve loved it here. I will miss this house, the view, my neighbors.

Another memory to add to my life.

The Cupid Shuffle and a Parrot

Monday, October 26th, 2009

I held a Parrot, the multi-colored, beautiful kind (ok, they are all beautiful!!) tonight…at the Spanish Springs Square.

It was an amazing evening and the line dancers were plentiful, at least until 8PM when the “Dancing with the Stars” aficionados headed home to watch the show.

I met another wonderful couple tonight, Ray and Barbara. Barbara and I danced the Electric Slide after Ray brought us a round of drinks…and then the Cupid Shuffle lessons started! Barbara is a quick learner…the band, Impulse, finished the last set with my favorite line dance, Cupid Shuffle!! What fun to dance the evening away! Home in time to catch the end of “Dancing with the Stars”.

It was a full day…Mom left just before noon and I worked until 5…on the way home in the golf cart, I wondered…pack? work? Dancing at the Square. Yup. Dancing at the square won, hands down. My friends Irving and Bernice and their niece Layney stopped by, Layney requested a song to celebrate the 61st wedding anniversary…what a joy to FINALLY get to watch Irving and Bernice dance in person.

Yes, this post is “all over the place”, but that’s just the way it is!! Typing as the thoughts come.

It was a wonderful, wonderful day! It’s been a wonderful weekend!

It’s been a …

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

It’s been a long time since I’ve updated this site…

I’m packing to move, but have no idea where I’m going.
I have the Jeep back, but it is leaking something, perhaps oil.
I didn’t get any of the jobs I’ve applied for.

With the overgrowth in the ponds, the job of spotting the baby gators has become extremely difficult and the joy of searching has been replaced with “there is much more that needs to be done, can’t spend valuable time looking for gators right now”.

Still haven’t had the garage sale.

I’m sleeping well, a miracle.

It’s been a … (until next time)
