Life goes on…
Tuesday, September 1st, 2009Another rain storm today…and only 3 or 4 alligators visible…
There are many places for the little guys and gals to go, the big lake beyond the pond, the other two retention ponds, or…the challenging, dark and dreary pipes under the streets here in the Village of Rio Ponderosa…
The baby Moorhen chicks are growing every day…they are no longer in danger during rain storms…
I haven’t seen my snake friend…I think he was the unfortunate snack of the gators a few weeks ago…
The mama squirrel still visits the air conditioner and traverses the screened porch…
The hundred of June frogs have grown up, dried up (inside garages and porches), or been eaten…
There is another lone duck out back, not sure what may have happened to the other one…this time the lone duck is one of the “pretty” ones with the orange beak and feet. A few days ago it was one of the plainer brown ducks who was left alone for a time.
Haven’t seen the owl in a while either, but I have heard the screeching when I took a midnight walk a few nights ago.
The turtle has made the round of all three ponds, and right now the bat eating big white bird is perched at the edge of the culvert waiting for an early dinner.
A friend of mine died on Saturday, cancer. Another friend and her 16 year old daughter are about to lose their home to foreclosure. Someone I’ve worked for had lightning hit the business and two hard drives were hit and they are scrambling to restore their records. Another friend needs $2000 yesterday. Another friend is babysitting from 10PM to 10AM in order to pay the rent.
Today the rain was so heavy that the middle pond ran over into BOTH ponds on either side…
Someone said this is the “dry” season.
I don’t think so.
